Big Picture Assessment

How could you thrive in the future?

Sustainable businesses will be more resilient to the changes that the climate crisis will bring to our economy, our society and our environment. You, your employees and your customers know that becoming sustainable means more than lowering your greenhouse gas emissions. You need to examine your full impact on people and the planet and assess how you can help push for and thrive in a low-carbon future.

You need a vision for what your business could look like if it were an exemplar in all areas of sustainability, and a plan of what to do to get there.

Our Big Picture Assessment goes wider and deeper than traditional ESG frameworks. We take a strategic look at all areas of your business and give you a framework for how to become fit for a sustainable future.

Carbon accounting quality

Is your carbon accounting fit-for-purpose to show you where your biggest emissions are and where you can take action to reduce them? Will it reflect emission reductions along your supply chain, and is the methodology transparent and robust?

Carbon Strategy

We look at your strategy to reduce emissions, and gauge if your targets are science-aligned and inclusive of all areas you have control or influence over.

Climate narrative

We examine your internal and external communications and assess your narrative around the climate emergency and your response to it. We pick up greenwashing, and discover 'greenhushing' where you could have a stronger voice.

Environmental impact

What's your impact on biodiversity? We look at plastic and other pollution, waste materials and how you could impact the wider environment both negatively and positively.

Social impact

Do your plans, policies, actions and communication respect people within the organisation, your stakeholders and dependents and the wider global community?

Economic transition

We assess how well you are managing the risks and opportunities that the climate emergency presents. Do your core outputs help with the transition to a low-carbon and sustainable economic future?

Where Big Picture thinking can take you

We’ve used our Big Picture Framework with a range of clients in different sectors, including food and beverage, manufacturing, recruitment and local government.

Jude’s Ice Cream has focused on a new product range, with delicious plant-based ice creams making up 75% of the new products launched in 2023. These use 80% less land and have 47% lower carbon emissions than dairy ice creams.

The Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre has worked with us to create a project selection tool, to assess the sustainability of the projects they fund and work on, and maximise their impact across the whole UK manufacturing industry.

What if all businesses thought like this?

We support the Better Business Act, which is calling for a change in legislation so that all UK businesses must put the interests of people and the planet alongside profit.

Is your money where your values are?

Where you keep your money is just as important as what you spend it on. Your bank and pensions could be the biggest part of your carbon footprint and environmental impact.

Finding a bank that aligns with your values and meets the needs of your business is complex and ever-changing.

We worked with MotherTree to unearth some nasty truths about our bank and then find a new one aligned with our values.

Our Big Picture view of your future

Our Big Picture Assessment works for organisations in all sectors from hospitality, catering and land management to manufacturing, technology, retail and entertainment. We can run a workshop with you to present our findings and work with your team to explore your future direction and next steps.

We also work with asset managers to help assess the sustainability and risks of investments, using our Big Picture Assessment as a fit-for-purpose version of a mainstream ESG assessment.

As well as full Scope 3 carbon accounting, we can help you look at credible schemes for nature-based solutions that you can fund alongside your own carbon reduction and sustainability efforts. We'll find schemes that have a genuine impact on climate, nature and some of the communities linked to your business.

We can help you tell the story of your targets and actions, without greenwashing, as part of your business brand and sustainability strategy.
